Y chromosome microdeletions are one of the causes of male infertility. The AZF (Azoospermia factor) region on the Y chromosome, which is said to play an important role in spermatogenesis, is examined for deletions and their locations. If there is a deletion of AZFc, there is a chance that sperm can be retrieved, but if there is a complete deletion of AZFa or AZFb, or a complete deletion of AZFb+c, there is no chance that sperm can be retrieved.
